Habitat for Humanity Thunder Bay has announced their new Shoes & Champagne Gala Evening that will take place this fall. The exclusive event will offer shoppers, for the first time ever in the city of Thunder Bay, the opportunity to purchase shoes from international designers and right off the foot of their favourite celebrities.

Habitat for Humanity officials along with gala representatives launched the event by unveiling two pairs of shoes that will be auctioned off at the prestigious affair. A pair of luxury brand Manolo Blahnik's were displayed that are autographed by the Governor General Michaëlle Jean; along with a pair of tournament worn golf shoes from Canadian Golf Pro Mike Weir.

Looking for Qualified Volunteers:

We're looking for experienced people to help build the root trusses for our new build. We're planning to do the work over the last two weeks in May and we can work around your schedule. Ideally we'd like four volunteers to help us complete the work. Please email habitat@tbaytel.net or call the office at 345-5520 if you can help.

Spring Home and Garden Show

Habitat for Humanity Thunder Bay is taking Habitat homes to the local Spring Home and Garden Show. Instead of the traditional annual Habitat playhouse auction, this time around, the organization will be showcasing three children’s playhouses at the Home and Garden show event taking place from Friday, April 9th until Sunday, April 11th, on the CLE grounds. The playhouses were all built and handcrafted with care by a local resident or group and will be prizes in the show’s penny auction event. The funding raised from the entire penny auction event will benefit local Habitat for Humanity families.

The Thunder Bay Habitat Re-store, Paramedics Union, along with individual John Ruzycki, all took on the challenge to build the miniature homes. (Seen in picture above alongside representatives of the Home and Garden Show)

Habitat for Humanity Welcomes
Union Gas as a Corporate Sponsor

Union Gas’ donation to Habitat for Humanity Thunder Bay illustrates their commitment to help customers conserve energy. Their support for the installation of Drain Water Heat Recovery technology will help Habitat for Humanity home owners lowering their energy consumption and save money.

Each Habitat for Humanity homeowner has the potential to save up to 30% a year on water heating costs.  After the furnace, water heating is the second largest user of energy in a home and accounts for up to 20-25% of one’s energy bill.  The actual savings from a DWHR unit is dependent on the number of people and demographic make-up of the home – the more occupants the greater the savings.  Homeowners will also benefit from increased efficiency of their water heater, extended hot water usage and a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions.
